Looking for something fun and different to do in Calgary? We recently stumbled upon Fire Escape, and honestly—it might just be one of our favourite little finds. Tucked away in the northeast, this walk-in pottery painting studio is cozy, welcoming, and full of creative energy.

The vibe inside is super chill. You walk in, pick your piece—maybe a mug, a plate, or something quirky—and just start painting. No pressure to be perfect. Just colours, brushes, and some good company (or peaceful alone time if that’s your thing). It’s a great spot whether you’re planning a cute date, hanging out with friends, or just want to unplug and do something with your hands.
They’ve got a solid setup for private events too. So if you’re thinking birthday party, bridal shower, or even a team hangout, they can host groups of 10 to 30 people. And yes, they’ll handle the mess.

One of the coolest parts? They now offer pottery wheel sessions on weekends. You can book a two-hour intro session (solo or with a partner) and give it a spin—literally. After your masterpiece is fired, you come back and paint it however you want. Super satisfying.
And get this: around 80% of the pottery they offer is made right there in their studio. So not only are you creating something fun, but you’re also supporting local craftsmanship without even realizing it.

You’ll find Fire Escape at Unit 211 – 2835, 23rd Street N.E., Calgary. Heads-up—check Groupon before you go, we saw some sweet deals floating around. Just one thing to keep in mind: once your piece goes into the kiln, it takes about two weeks before you can pick it up. Worth the wait though.
Whether you’re a seasoned artist or haven’t touched a paintbrush since grade school, Fire Escape makes it easy (and fun) to tap into your creative side. It’s one of those local gems that makes Calgary feel a little more special.
